AFP is a printing format used by very large producers of document series. Its main advantage is that it drastically reduces the size of stored files.
Arcsys natively processes AFP flows without the need for prior conversion.
AFP versus PDF
The size of an AFP document is ridiculously small compared to the same document in PDF format. In addition, an AFP stream can benefit from very strong compression, whereas PDF documents are not compressed or are compressed only slightly.
Evidentiary value
For user companies, the AFP stream truly constitutes the original document. Due to its evidentiary value, it is essential that companies take the necessary measures to guarantee its integrity and authenticity. These requirements are part of a framework aimed at ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
Cost reduction
The main advantage of this type of flow is the optimisation of storage costs. Thanks to data optimisation, the weight of a document is reduced by a factor of more than 50, resulting in significant savings in terms of space and resources.
In addition, this flow contributes to:
- Reduce the volumes of exchange between service providers, thus limiting bandwidth requirements and transfer costs.
- Accelerate processing times, thus optimising processes and reducing delays.
- Reduce costs related to evidentiary value, by centralising the management of legal requirements directly at the flow level, rather than at the level of each individual document.
Consultation of AFP documents
For consultation purposes, Arcsys dynamically generates a conversion of the document to PDF format at the time of display, thus enabling optimal presentation to the user.
